Ensuring easy access: Homelessness and inclusion health

A Talk by Jane Cook and Neal Mcardle

About this Talk

Our 2022 report showed that people experiencing homelessness suffer from worse physical and mental health than the general population, yet barriers in accessing needed support for physical and mental health means people experiencing homelessness often don't get the help they need.

In this session we will hear about two projects working in practical and replicable ways to remove these barriers, and ensure access for all:

  • Groundswell about their Homeless Health Peer Advocacy programme, using volunteers with lived experience of homelessness to support those experiencing homelessness to address physical and mental health issues and access care services including GP registration.
  • Providence Row about their award winning inclusion health fairs which bring together a huge range of services at the same place at the same time, including vaccinations, sexual health, mental health, dental, x-rays, massages and haircuts (supported by Groundswell's Health Peer Advocates to help attendees engage)
