Supporting non-UK nationals experiencing homelessness: Responding to a growing crisis
A Talk by Daniel Ashwell , Enver Solomon , Safia Cragg and Kateya Mbita
About this Talk
Homelessness services have long played a crucial role in supporting non-UK nationals with immigration-based restrictions to move on from homelessness. The extent of this has been demonstrated in recent months by the tireless efforts of services supporting the significant number of refugees and asylum seekers evicted from asylum accommodation into homelessness. This session will:
- Bring services together to consider how changes to national policy and practice have led to a homelessness crisis among non-UK nationals.
- Give services the opportunity to share challenges and lesson learned in the course of supporting refugees and asylum seekers through this crisis.
- Share details of a new toolkit designed to help non-UK nationals experiencing homelessness to access substance misuse treatment and support.
- Discuss ways in which services can utilise anti-racist, trauma-informed, and person-centred approaches to compassionately support asylum seekers and refugees accessing support.
- Provide an overview of Homeless Links planned national influencing activity for non-uk nationals and how you can get involved.
